Veteran actor Michael Riley, whose resume includes such series as Power Play, This is Wonderland and the current Being Erica, was among those feted at the Gemini Awards’ second industry celebration before the live gala next weekend. The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television handed out the hardware for 38 awards at Wednesday’s industry celebration for the Drama, Children’s and Youth, Comedy and Variety categories.

Riley was recognized for Best Performance by an Actor in a Guest Role, Dramatic Series on Flashpoint; the actor was stunning in his role as Pat Cosgrove, an aging shock radio jock who takes a politician hostage. Actress Tatiana Maslany received the trophy for Best Performance by an Actress in a Guest Role, Dramatic Series for her role on Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures.

Citytv’s Glenn Martin, DDS was lauded as Best Animated Program or Series while Overruled! was given kudos as Best Children’s or Youth Fiction Program or Series. Canada’s Super Speller was recognized as Best Children’s or Youth Non-Fiction Program or Series.

Veteran kid’s show host Patti Sullivan was named Best Host in a Pre-School, Children’s or Youth Program or Series for her work on Kids’ Canada, while She Drives Me Crazy, the made-for-TV movie starring Melinda Clarke (The O.C., Nikita) and executive-produced by Kelly Rowan, got the nod as Best TV Movie.

The Gemini Awards gala, hosted by Cory Monteith (Glee), airs live on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. ET on Global/Showcase.
